With everyone so worried about the COVID-19, we wanted to share some information to help you and your family stay safe by knowing proper procedures for disinfecting for the Coronavirus at home. The sooner everyone starts taking the necessary steps to clean and sanitize properly as well as follow mask and social distancing recommendations, the sooner we can all get back to our normal lives.
Coronavirus Prevention
Despite the differing levels of Coronavirus throughout our country being prepared starts with something as simple as your daily hygiene. It’s particularly important to pay closer attention to your personal cleaning preferences and make a more targeted effort to keep yourself and your family safe from infection. Although hand washing alone won’t ensure you’re safe from contracting the virus as it’s able to live on surfaces in the form of droplets for hours. This means you should plan on fully cleaning and disinfecting your entire home to ensure the highest levels of personal quality containment practices.
Cleaning for Coronavirus
Hand Sanitizer: According to the CDC, hand sanitizer is effective against the Coronavirus as long as it contains at least 60 percent alcohol. You should get into the practice of routinely sanitizing your hands thoroughly, especially if you travel outside your home, it’s recommended to carry a bottle of this around with you if you can.
Disinfecting: There are a number of disinfectant products that can be effective against the novel coronavirus on hard, nonporous surfaces and that are in accordance with the EPA and CDC which are readily available.
Handwashing: Proper handwashing is particularly important in the fight to prevent the spread of disease and germs. Make sure you wash thoroughly with hot water and soap to kill the virus.
Coronavirus Disinfecting Tips
You should plan on routinely pre-cleaning any surfaces in your home to remove any dirt and grime before disinfecting. After that, you’ll want to go over all the cleaned surfaces with a disinfectant spray and then let it sit for 60 seconds or more before wiping it up. If you’re disinfecting anything you may put in your mouth or use on your body then you should plan on washing the items with water afterward ie. toys etc.
Best Times to Clean
When you’re at home or out for essential travel, its best to wash your hands both before and after preparing any meals before eating, after the restroom or touching other objects garbage etc. Make sure to clean and disinfect frequently touched objects, like door handles and light switches. If you’re not near a sink, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol. Try not to share food and routinely clean and avoid touching your face after contact with frequently-touched surfaces.
