How Often Should You Deep Clean Your Home? A Portland Deep Cleaning Guide
How Often Should You Deep Clean Your Home? A Portland Guide Maintaining a clean home is essential for health, comfort, and overall well-being. While regular tidying keeps daily messes at bay, periodic deep cleaning is crucial to address hidden dirt, allergens, and grime that accumulate over time. For residents in Portland, understanding the importance and frequency of deep cleaning can make a significant difference in home maintenance. Understanding Deep Cleaning Deep cleaning goes beyond the surface-level tasks of regular cleaning. It involves thorough scrubbing, disinfecting, and organizing areas that are often overlooked during routine cleanups. This includes cleaning behind appliances, washing baseboards, sanitizing high-touch surfaces, and addressing areas prone to mold and mildew. Recommended Deep Cleaning Frequency The frequency of deep cleaning depends on various factors, including household size, presence of pets, and individual health needs. However, a general guideline for Portland homeowners is: Seasonally (Every 3-4 Months): Ideal for comprehensive cleaning, especially during spring and fall transitions. Biannually (Every 6 Months): Suitable for smaller households or those without pets. Annually: At a minimum, a thorough deep clean once a year helps maintain a healthy living environment. Homes with children, pets, or individuals with allergies may require more frequent deep cleaning to ensure optimal indoor air quality and hygiene. Occasions That Call for Deep Cleaning Certain situations necessitate a deep clean, regardless of the regular schedule: 1. Before or After Hosting Events Preparing your home for guests or cleaning up after a gathering ensures a welcoming and sanitary environment. 2. Moving In or Out Deep cleaning before moving in guarantees a fresh start, while cleaning before moving out is courteous and often required. 3. Post-Renovation Construction work can leave behind dust and debris; a deep clean restores cleanliness and order. 4. Seasonal Changes Transitioning between seasons, especially from winter to spring, is an excellent time to eliminate accumulated dust and allergens. 5. Health Concerns If household members suffer from allergies or respiratory issues, regular deep cleaning can alleviate symptoms by reducing irritants. Deep Cleaning Checklist To ensure a comprehensive deep clean, it helps to break your tasks down by area. Here’s a detailed room-by-room checklist to guide your cleaning efforts: Kitchen Clean the inside and outside of all appliances, including the oven, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher. Degrease the stove and range hood. Wipe down and sanitize countertops, backsplashes, and cabinet faces. Clean and organize pantry shelves. Mop the floor and clean baseboards. Bathrooms Scrub tile grout, sinks, tubs, and showers to remove soap scum and mold. Disinfect toilets, including behind the base and under the seat. Clean mirrors, fixtures, and light switches. Wipe down cabinet doors and clean out drawers. Wash bath mats and shower curtains. Living Areas Vacuum and steam clean upholstered furniture and cushions. Dust ceiling fans, blinds, and vents. Clean baseboards, window sills, and trim. Wash interior windows and glass doors. Wipe down electronics and entertainment centers. Bedrooms Rotate and vacuum mattresses; launder bedding and pillows. Dust and wipe down furniture and headboards. Clean under the bed and inside closets. Declutter drawers and organize personal items. Floors Vacuum carpets thoroughly, especially along edges. Shampoo or steam-clean carpets if needed. Mop all hard floors using appropriate cleaners for the surface type. Don’t forget staircases, if applicable. Benefits of Deep Cleaning Engaging in regular deep cleaning goes beyond simple tidiness. It’s a proactive step toward protecting your health, property, and peace of mind. For Portland homeowners, investing in deep cleaning is one of the easiest ways to care for your home inside and out. Enhanced Indoor Air Quality One of the most immediate and noticeable benefits of deep cleaning is improved air quality. Over time, dust, pet dander, mold spores, and other allergens accumulate in carpets, furniture, baseboards, vents, and behind appliances. These particles often go unnoticed during standard cleaning routines but can significantly impact respiratory health, especially for people with asthma, allergies, or other sensitivities. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Deep cleaning helps remove these hidden contaminants, allowing you and your family to breathe easier. In Portland, where damp winters can exacerbate mold and mildew issues, regular deep cleaning becomes even more important for maintaining a healthy indoor environment. Pest Prevention Crumbs under the fridge, sticky residue in cabinets, or dark cluttered corners can become prime real estate for pests like ants, cockroaches, and even rodents. Deep cleaning eliminates these conditions by addressing areas that are often missed in weekly cleanups. By removing food sources and nesting materials, you’re making your home far less appealing to unwelcome guests. This proactive approach not only saves you from dealing with infestations but also reduces the need for chemical pest control treatments. In a city like Portland, where rainy weather can drive insects indoors, consistent deep cleaning offers a valuable line of defense. Extended Lifespan of Appliances and Surfaces Your home is filled with valuable items, appliances, furniture, flooring, countertops, that benefit greatly from routine deep care. Grease buildup in ovens and microwaves, dust in dryer vents, and grime in dishwasher filters can reduce appliance efficiency and increase wear and tear. The same goes for natural stone, tile, and hardwood floors, which can deteriorate without periodic deep cleaning and conditioning. Regular maintenance keeps these items functioning longer and looking newer, saving you money on costly replacements or repairs. It’s a smart investment for homeowners who want to protect their assets and preserve the integrity of their living space. Improved Mental Well-Being There’s a strong connection between cleanliness and mental health. Studies from Verywell Mind, Real Simple, and Newport Healthcare show that clutter and mess can elevate stress levels, decrease productivity, and negatively impact mood. On the flip side, a clean, well-organized space can create a sense of control, calm, and even joy. Deep cleaning allows you to reset your home environment. It’s not just about aesthetics. It’s about creating a sanctuary where you can relax, focus, and recharge. This is especially helpful during seasonal transitions
The Dangers of Dust & How to Keep It Under Control
Dust is more than just an annoying household nuisance it’s a hidden threat to your health, your home, and your indoor air quality. While it may seem harmless, the build-up can lead to serious problems, especially for those with allergies, asthma, or respiratory conditions. In this blog post, we’ll explore the dangers of dust and how you can keep it under control with a few effective strategies. What Is Dust Made Of? It is a complex mix of particles that settle on surfaces throughout your home. It typically includes: Dead skin cells Pollen Pet dander Mold spores Dust mites and their waste Fabric fibers Dirt and debris from outdoors While some of this is inevitable, regular cleaning can drastically reduce how much build-up collects in your living space. Why Is Dust Dangerous? It isn’t just an eyesore it can affect your health and the condition of your home. Here’s how: 1. Respiratory Irritation Inhaling it can irritate your lungs and airways. For people with asthma, allergies, or other respiratory conditions, even small amounts can trigger symptoms like coughing, sneezing, or shortness of breath. 2. Allergens & Dust Mites Dust mites thrive in dusty environments, especially in bedding, upholstered furniture, and carpets. Their waste is a major allergen that can cause year-round allergy symptoms, especially in humid conditions. 3. Mold Growth It can contain mold spores, and when combined with moisture, it creates a perfect breeding ground for mold. Mold growth in hidden, dusty areas like HVAC vents or basements can spread quickly and become a costly problem. 4. Electronics & Fire Hazards Buildup inside electronics, like computers, TVs, and power strips can trap heat and increase the risk of overheating or even fire. Keeping electronics clean helps them run more efficiently and safely. How to Keep Dust Under Control Reducing fine particles and debris in your home is one of the best things you can do for both your health and cleanliness. Here are some proven strategies to control dust: 1. Vacuum Frequently with a HEPA Filter Standard vacuums can stir dust into the air. A HEPA-filter vacuum traps fine particles and allergens, keeping them out of your breathing space. Aim to vacuum high-traffic areas at least twice a week, especially if you have pets. 2. Use Microfiber Cloths Feather dusters and dry cloths just move dust around. Microfiber cloths attract and trap dust, making them much more effective. Clean from top to bottom, start with shelves and work your way down to the baseboards. 3. Wash Bedding Weekly Your bed collects skin cells, sweat, and dust mites. Wash sheets, pillowcases, and blankets in hot water every week to keep build-up to a minimum. 4. Change HVAC Filters Regularly Your HVAC system can circulate dust if filters are clogged or dirty. Replace filters every 1–3 months to maintain good air quality and reduce buildup. 5. Eliminate Clutter Cluttered surfaces attract and hold onto dust. Keep shelves, tables, and floors as clear as possible to make cleaning easier and more effective. 6. Clean Vents, Fans, and Baseboards Don’t forget to clean often-overlooked areas like ceiling fans, air vents, and baseboards. These surfaces are notorious for collecting dust and releasing it back into the air. Need Help Fighting Dust? We’ve Got You Covered. Deep Cleaning vs. Regular Cleaning: What’s the Difference?
Deep Cleaning vs. Regular Cleaning: What’s the Difference? When it comes to maintaining a clean and healthy home, understanding the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning is essential. At Clean Arrival Home Services, we offer both types of cleaning services to meet your unique needs. Whether you’re trying to keep up with everyday messes or preparing your home for a fresh seasonal reset, knowing what each service entails will help you make the right choice. In this blog post, we’ll break down the key differences between regular cleaning and deep cleaning—using our detailed checklists—so you can choose the best service for your home. What is Regular Cleaning? Regular cleaning is ideal for maintaining a tidy, hygienic home on a recurring basis. This is the type of cleaning most people schedule weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. It covers the basics to keep surfaces clean, clutter down, and dust at bay. Our Standard Cleaning Checklist Includes: Dusting flat surfaces, blinds, windowsills, bookshelves, mantels, and lampshades High dusting and cobweb removal Cleaning kitchen countertops, stovetop, and appliance exteriors Vacuuming and mopping floors Cleaning bathroom sinks, vanities, mirrors, and toilets Light attention to tubs and showers Straightening beds and pillows Emptying and wiping down waste baskets This level of cleaning is great for homes that are already in good condition and just need ongoing upkeep. What is a Deep Clean? Deep cleaning is a much more detailed and intensive process. It goes beyond the surface to target areas that aren’t addressed during standard cleanings. Deep cleaning is perfect for first-time services, seasonal resets (like spring cleaning), move-in/move-out cleanings, or preparing for special occasions. Our Deep Cleaning Checklist Adds: Scrubbing baseboards and removing scuffs Cleaning moldings, wall marks, and light switches Cleaning interior microwave, oven (upon request), and inside cabinets and fridge (if requested) Extra attention to bathroom grout, shower doors, faucet handles, and floor edges Vacuuming couches and edging carpets Dusting and wiping down cabinet hardware and vent hoods Washing walls and window tracks (if requested) Straightening pillows and throws with extra care Deep cleaning is designed to restore your home to a like-new condition, eliminating grime and buildup in hard-to-reach or often-forgotten places. Key Differences at a Glance Feature Regular Cleaning Deep Cleaning Frequency Weekly, Bi-weekly, Monthly Seasonally or as needed Focus Surface-level tasks Detail-oriented, thorough cleaning Time Required Shorter Longer Ideal For Maintenance First-time cleans, seasonal, move-in/move-out Add-ons Optional Often includes detailed extras When Should You Choose a Deep Clean? First-time clients: We recommend all new clients begin with a deep cleaning. This ensures your home meets our high standards before transitioning into regular maintenance. Seasonal cleaning: A deep clean helps refresh your space during spring or fall. Special occasions: Hosting guests or preparing for a holiday? A deep clean ensures every detail sparkles. After renovations or construction: Dust and debris settle in places you might not expect. Long gaps between cleanings: If your home hasn’t been professionally cleaned in a while, a deep cleaning is the perfect reset. Which Cleaning is Right for You? Choosing between a regular and a deep clean depends on the condition of your home and your goals. If you’re just looking to maintain cleanliness and order, our standard cleaning is perfect. But if your home needs a little extra love, deep cleaning will provide that fresh, revitalized feel. At Clean Arrival Home Services, we are happy to assess your space and recommend the best option. However, with busy schedules, family responsibilities, and work demands, finding time to deep clean your home can be challenging. That’s where professional cleaning services come in. Hiring experts ensures your home stays spotless while saving you time and effort. In this blog post, we’ll explore the top benefits of hiring professional cleaning services and why it’s a worthwhile investment for homeowners. Save Time and Reduce Stress One of the biggest advantages of hiring professional cleaning services is the amount of time you save. Instead of spending your weekends scrubbing floors or dusting shelves, you can relax, spend time with family, or focus on hobbies. Professional cleaners handle all the tedious tasks, from vacuuming and mopping to sanitizing bathrooms and kitchens. This means you can enjoy a clean home without lifting a finger. Experience and Expertise Professional cleaners are trained in the most effective cleaning techniques and use industry-grade products to ensure a deep clean. They know how to tackle stubborn stains, eliminate odors, and disinfect high-touch surfaces properly. Unlike DIY cleaning, where you might miss hidden dirt or use the wrong products, professional cleaning services deliver consistent, high-quality results every time. Healthier Living Environment Dust, allergens, mold, and bacteria can accumulate in homes, leading to respiratory issues, allergies, and illnesses. Professional cleaners use HEPA-filter vacuums, eco-friendly disinfectants, and specialized tools to remove contaminants effectively. Regular deep cleaning reduces the risk of sickness, making your home safer for children, pets, and anyone with allergies or asthma. Extend the Lifespan of Your Home and Belongings Dirt, grime, and neglect can damage floors, carpets, furniture, and appliances over time. Professional cleaners use the right techniques to preserve surfaces, preventing premature wear and tear. For example: Carpets last longer with professional steam cleaning. Hardwood floors retain their shine with proper polishing. Upholstery stays fresh with deep cleaning. Investing in professional cleaning services helps maintain your home’s value. Customized Cleaning Plans Every home has different cleaning needs. Whether you need a one-time deep clean, move-in/move-out cleaning, or regular maintenance, professional services offer flexible options. You can customize: Frequency (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) Specific areas (kitchens, bathrooms, basements) Special requests (window washing, fridge cleaning) This ensures you get exactly what you need without paying for unnecessary services. Eco-Friendly Cleaning Solutions Many homeowners worry about harsh chemicals affecting their family’s health. Reputable professional cleaning services use green cleaning products that are safe for kids, pets, and the environment. These products are just as effective as traditional cleaners but without the toxic fumes or residue. Increased Productivity and Mental Clarity A cluttered, dirty home can negatively impact your focus and mood. Studies show that clean spaces reduce stress and improve mental well-being. By outsourcing cleaning tasks, you can: Work more efficiently in a tidy home office Enjoy relaxation in a clutter-free living room Sleep better in a fresh, dust-free bedroom Perfect for Special Occasions Hosting guests for the holidays, a birthday party, or a family gathering? Professional cleaning services ensure your home looks its best before and after events. They handle: Pre-event cleaning (dusting, vacuuming, sanitizing) Post-event cleanup (reset your home) This lets you focus on entertaining instead of stressing over messes. Cost-Effective in the Long Run Some people hesitate to hire cleaners due to cost. When you factor in the time saved, extended home longevity, and health benefits, it’s a smart investment. You also avoid: Buying and maintaining expensive cleaning equipment (We bring and maintain our own equipment for top-notch service). Wasting money on ineffective store-bought products (We take the time and energy to understand the latest industry standards). Spending weekends cleaning instead of earning or relaxing. Peace of Mind Knowing that trained professionals are taking care of your home gives you confidence in its cleanliness. Pet-Friendly Cleaning: How to Keep Your Home Fresh with Pets
Pet-Friendly Cleaning: How to Keep Your Home Fresh with Pets We love our furry friends, but let’s face it—pets can make keeping a clean home a challenge. From shedding fur to unexpected messes, we know the struggle of keeping a home clean with pets. At Clean Arrival Home Services, we know you don’t have to choose between a spotless home and your pet’s health. Here are our top tips for pet-friendly cleaning. Keep your home clean and safe for every member of the family—paws included! 1. Use Pet-Safe Cleaning Products Many conventional cleaning products contain chemicals that can be harmful to pets. Opt for pet-friendly cleaning products made from natural ingredients. Look for products labeled as safe for use around animals. Vinegar, baking soda, and castile soap are excellent alternatives. You don’t need to sacrifice quality for safety. 2. Control Pet Hair with Regular Grooming Reducing fur at the source is one of the best pet-friendly cleaning strategies. Regular brushing, especially during shedding season. This helps reduce the amount of hair that ends up on your floors and furniture. Groom your pets outside or in an easy-to-clean area to cut down on indoor mess. 3. Vacuum Frequently with a Pet-Approved Vacuum Pet hair and dander settle into carpets and upholstery fast. Use a vacuum designed for pet-friendly cleaning. One with a HEPA filter to capture allergens. Vacuum high-traffic areas and your pet’s favorite spots. Do this several times a week to keep your home fur-free. 4. Wash Pet Bedding and Toys Often Pet beds, blankets, and soft toys can harbor odors and bacteria. Wash them weekly using a gentle, fragrance-free detergent. This not only keeps them clean but also ensures your pet’s comfort and health. While also supporting your pet-friendly cleaning routine. 5. Tackle Accidents the Right Way Whether it’s house-training a puppy or dealing with a hairball mishap, accidents happen. Use enzymatic cleaners to break down stains and odors. This will remove odors at the source without harsh chemicals. 6. Clean Pet Feeding Areas Daily Clean pet bowls and feeding mats daily to prevent bacteria and mold growth. Stainless steel or ceramic bowls are easier to clean and less likely to hold onto odors than plastic. This supports a hygienic, pet-friendly home. 7. Create a Designated Pet Cleaning Station Set up a space near your entryway with pet wipes, towels, and a shallow bucket for muddy paws. This helps contain dirt before it spreads throughout your home. 8. Air Out Your Home Pets can make a space smell musty over time. Open windows when the weather allows to improve air circulation. Also, consider using an air purifier with a HEPA filter to reduce allergens and pet dander. Fresh air is a key element of pet-friendly cleaning. 9. Keep Litter Boxes Fresh If you have cats, scoop litter boxes daily and change the litter regularly. Choose unscented, low-dust litter to reduce respiratory issues. It’s a smart move for maintaining pet-friendly cleaning standards. 10. Schedule Regular Deep Cleans Even with consistent maintenance, pet-friendly homes benefit from professional deep cleaning. At Clean Arrival Home Services, we offer thorough, pet-friendly cleaning solutions. We’ll help you refresh your space without compromising your pet’s safety. Hiring a Housekeeper
30 Essential Questions to Ask Your Housekeeper Before Hiring Hiring a housekeeper is an important decision that requires careful consideration. Whether you need occasional deep cleaning or regular housekeeping services, asking the right questions can help you find someone reliable, trustworthy, and suited to your specific needs. At Clean Arrival Home Services, we believe in making the process seamless and stress-free. Here are 30 essential questions to ask when hiring a housekeeper. 1. Experience & Background Before welcoming a housekeeper into your home, it’s crucial to understand their level of experience and past work history. How long have you been working as a housekeeper? What types of homes have you worked in before? Do you have references from previous clients? Are you comfortable working in homes with pets and/or children? Are you trained in handling different cleaning supplies and equipment? 2. Cleaning Services & Responsibilities Every home has unique cleaning needs, so be sure to clarify the scope of work expected. What specific cleaning tasks do you typically handle? Do you perform deep cleaning, such as scrubbing baseboards and cleaning behind furniture? Are laundry and ironing included in your services? Can you help with organizing spaces like closets, pantries, or kitchen cabinets? How do you handle delicate surfaces such as marble, granite, or hardwood floors? 3. Schedule & Availability Knowing your housekeeper’s availability will help prevent scheduling conflicts. What days and times are you available? How long does it typically take you to clean a home of this size? Do you offer recurring services (weekly, biweekly, monthly)? Are you available for special occasions or emergency clean-ups? Do you work on weekends or holidays if needed? 4. Cleaning Products & Equipment The right cleaning products make a huge difference in maintaining a safe and healthy home environment. Do you bring your own cleaning supplies, or should I provide them? Are you experienced in using eco-friendly or hypoallergenic cleaning products? Are there any cleaning products or tools you prefer to use? How do you handle tough stains or difficult cleaning tasks? Are you familiar with proper disinfecting techniques for high-touch areas? 5. Trust & Security Because a housekeeper will be in your home, trust is a key factor in the hiring process. Have you undergone a background check? How do you handle lost or broken items? Do you carry insurance in case of accidental damage? How do you ensure client confidentiality and privacy? Are you willing to sign a service agreement for added peace of mind? 6. Payment & Policies Understanding the financial and contractual aspects upfront will prevent miscommunication later. What are your rates, and how do you prefer to be paid (cash, check, digital payment)? Do you charge per hour or per job? Do you offer discounts for long-term service agreements? Cleaning Grout: Tips for Sparkling Tiles
The Ultimate Guide to Cleaning Grout: Tips for Sparkling Tiles Grout is the unsung hero of tiled surfaces, holding everything together and adding a polished finish to your home. But over time, grout can trap dirt, grime, and mildew, leaving your floors and walls looking less than fresh. The good news? With the right techniques and a little elbow grease, you can restore your grout to its original sparkle. Here’s how Clean Arrival Home Services can help you tackle grout cleaning like a pro! Why Is Grout So Hard to Keep Clean? Grout is porous, meaning it easily absorbs dirt, spills, and moisture. Whether it’s in the bathroom, kitchen, or entryway, grout lines are constantly exposed to elements that cause discoloration and buildup. Regular maintenance is key to keeping them clean and mold-free. Tools and Materials You’ll Need Before diving in, gather these essentials for the best results: A stiff-bristle grout brush or an old toothbrush Baking soda Vinegar Hydrogen peroxide Dish soap A spray bottle Warm water Grout sealer (for long-term protection) At Clean Arrival Home Services, we use professional-grade tools and eco-friendly products to ensure your grout gets the deepest clean possible. Step-by-Step Guide to Cleaning Grout 1. Start with a Quick Surface Clean Remove any surface debris by sweeping or vacuuming the area. If you’re cleaning a shower or wall, wipe it down with a damp cloth to remove loose dirt. 2. Create a DIY Grout Cleaner There are several natural solutions you can use: Baking Soda and Vinegar: Mix baking soda with water to form a paste. Spread it over the grout lines, then spray vinegar on top. Let it fizz for 5-10 minutes. Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda: Combine equal parts hydrogen peroxide and baking soda for a powerful stain remover. 3. Scrub, Scrub, Scrub Using your grout brush or toothbrush, scrub the grout lines in a circular motion. Focus on areas with visible discoloration or mildew. 4. Rinse Thoroughly Wipe the area with a damp cloth or rinse with warm water to remove the cleaning solution. Be sure to remove all residue to avoid leaving a film on your tiles. 5. Address Stubborn Stains For particularly tough stains, apply hydrogen peroxide directly to the grout and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before scrubbing. 6. Seal the Deal Once your grout is clean and dry, apply a grout sealer to protect it from future stains and buildup. Sealing should be done every 6-12 months for best results. Pro Tips for Maintaining Clean Grout Wipe Down Regularly: Use a squeegee or cloth to wipe down tiled surfaces after showers or spills to prevent grime from settling. Use a Mild Cleaner Weekly: Incorporate a gentle cleaner into your routine to prevent dirt from building up. Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Strong cleaners like bleach can damage grout over time. Stick to natural or mild solutions. Address Mildew Immediately: If you notice mildew starting to form, clean it right away to prevent it from spreading. When to Call the Professionals Grout may seem like a small detail, but clean grout can make a big difference in how your home looks and feels. Everyday Cleaning Tips and Tricks to Maintain a Clean Home
Keeping your home clean and organized doesn’t have to be a time-consuming chore. With a few simple habits and strategies, you can maintain a sparkling home every day. At Clean Arrival LLC, we believe that small, consistent efforts make a big difference. Here are our top tips and tricks for everyday cleaning success. Create a Daily Cleaning Schedule Breaking cleaning tasks into manageable daily routines can help prevent messes from piling up. Tip: Focus on one room or task each day (e.g., Monday for bathrooms, Tuesday for dusting). Trick: Set a timer for 15-20 minutes and clean as much as you can within that time. You’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish! Keep Cleaning Supplies Handy Having supplies within reach makes it easier to tackle messes as they happen. Tip: Store a small cleaning kit in each major area (e.g., bathroom, kitchen) with essentials like disinfectant wipes, a microfiber cloth, and an all-purpose cleaner. Trick: Use a caddy or bucket to carry supplies from room to room for efficiency. Tidy As You Go Incorporate cleaning into your daily activities to minimize clutter. Tip: Make it a habit to put items back in their designated places after use. Trick: Use the “one-minute rule”—if a task takes less than a minute (e.g., wiping the counter, hanging up a coat), do it immediately. Prioritize High-Traffic Areas Some areas of your home require more frequent attention than others. Tip: Vacuum or sweep high-traffic areas daily to prevent dirt and debris from spreading. Trick: Place a doormat at each entrance to reduce the amount of dirt tracked into your home. Adopt a “Clean As You Cook” Habit The kitchen can quickly become a mess, especially during meal prep. Tip: Wash utensils and wipe down surfaces while waiting for food to cook. Trick: Keep a small trash bowl on the counter to collect scraps and avoid frequent trips to the garbage can. Delegate Tasks Cleaning doesn’t have to be a solo effort. Get the whole household involved. Tip: Assign age-appropriate tasks to children and other household members. Trick: Turn cleaning into a fun activity by playing music or setting up a friendly competition. Invest in Multi-Tasking Tools Using the right tools can make cleaning faster and more effective. Tip: Choose products like microfiber cloths, which can clean various surfaces without the need for multiple cleaners. Trick: Use a vacuum with attachments for dusting, cleaning upholstery, and reaching tight spaces. End the Day with a Quick Reset A few minutes of tidying up before bed can set you up for a stress-free morning. Tip: Spend 5-10 minutes putting away stray items and wiping down surfaces. Trick: Encourage family members to do a quick “room check” before bedtime to ensure everything is in order. Schedule Regular Deep Cleaning Even with daily maintenance, deep cleaning is essential for a truly clean home. Tip: Set aside one day a month for deeper tasks like washing windows, cleaning carpets, or scrubbing grout. Trick: Create a checklist to ensure you don’t miss any often-overlooked areas. Call in the Pros When Needed Sometimes, life gets busy, and maintaining a clean home becomes overwhelming. That’s where Clean Arrival LLC can help! Tip: Schedule professional cleanings periodically to reset your home and save time. Many of us don’t even think about cleaning the interior of our dishwasher. It might seem illogical to clean something that is designed to clean other items, but regular maintenance will help your appliances perform at peak ability. Soap scum, food debris, and minerals from you tap water build up over time. This can lead to a breeding ground for germs, mildew, and mold. The mineral deposits can also attach to your dishes and prevent your machine from working properly. We’ve done the research and can help you learn how you clean your dishwasher without calling in the maintenance man. What you’ll need: Damp cloth 2 cups White Vinegar Dishwasher safe container – small container or glass 1 cup Baking Soda Steps to easily and safely clean your dishwasher: Empty any dishes: You’ll want to make sure the dishwasher is empty to clean thoroughly. Remove debris: Use your damp cloth to remove and large debris, such as food particles, from the interior of your dishwasher. Clear out the drain: Remove the bottom rack of the dishwasher. Most racks should easily slide out and lift off the tracks. Use your cloth to clear out any gunk and debris from around the drains. Add the vinegar: Place your 2 cups of regular white vinegar in the dishwasher safe container on the bottom rack of your dishwasher. The jets on the top of your dishwasher will fill up the container and release the vinegar solution into your machine. Then run your dishwasher on your “normal” or “regular cycle. Avoid the “hot” or “sanitize” cycles as the steam created can release irritating vinegar vapors into your home. Ultimately the vinegar with help descale the interior of the dishwasher and reduce/remove odors that may have built-up due to grim. Sprinkle baking soda: After the vinegar cycle is complete sprinkle 1 cup of baking soda across the bottom of your dishwasher. Then run the machine on a “short” cycle to remove any additional grime and stains. In the absence of a short cycle, you can use your “normal” cycle. Leave the door open: After both cycles are complete leave the door to your dishwasher open and allow the interior to air dry. This will help release any residual odors from cleaning and prevent any immediate excess moisture build-up which can lead to mildew and mold. For safety reasons make sure to keep pets and children away from the machine while open. Tips: Make sure to read the instruction manual of your appliance. Some machines may have specific cycles and products that work best for descaling and cleaning. Also make sure to refer to your warranty to ensure you won’t be accidentally voiding your policy, as some have strict guidelines for maintenance. While regular maintenance can help extend the life of your appliances, don’t overuse this process. Vinegar as an acid can potentially damage your machine if overused.
